Video Placement Auditions (Due Monday May 4th, 2020) – Good Luck and DO NOT STRESS!
SPRING SEMESTER UPDATE, April 2nd, 2020
Hello parents and students, I hope everyone continues to stay healthy and safe. After the announcement that we will not be returning to school this academic year, I know there is a lot of uncertainty. Please know that our school system is on top of the situation from the top down and decisions are being made based on what is best for our students. I know you have received A LOT of information the past few weeks, but I wanted to take time to address the percussion program at Lowndes High School specifically.
For class work, I have posted a week-by-week curriculum, as well as a packet of music theory material in Google Classroom and a printable pdf version of both below. DO NOT STRESS about this. I am providing these materials only as a way of helping us stay on track. The students’ focus should be on the classes they need for graduation. These assignments will NOT be assigned grades that could hurt a student’s GPA. Again, This material is meant to help, not add stress to families during this time.
Auditions: by far, the most questions I have gotten pertain to Placement Auditions which were originally schedule for the end of April. Obviously, those are cancelled. I will have more information on how we will handle this in the coming weeks. I am aware that mallet players do not have instruments to practice on…again, DO NOT STRESS. For now, percussion students need to be working on the exercises in the ‘Handbook/Exercises’ section of this website. Mallet players, this is an excellent opportunity to work on your 4-mallet technique without having to worry about note accuracy. I ask for everyone’s patience during this process. In talking with Mr. Bowman, we think the likely scenario is to set a tentative instrumentation then revisit it the next time we all get back together. Have no fear, we will get all of you in the right place for this coming Fall.
Show Music: I have just received the first of the wind parts and will get to work on it over ‘Spring Break’ next week. Whenever I post new music on the website, I will send a Remind so you do not have to keep checking every day.
Please know that I miss all of you and that your first priority is your family’s well being. Anything I send as an ‘assignment’ is as much to give ME something to do as it is to keep our students engaged in learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything music or non-music related. Take care and stay well!
